Friday Drive-by
A few weeks ago I mentioned to y’all that law:/dev/null was among 25 nominees in ClearAdmit‘s “Best of Blogging” competition. The folks at Clear Admit basically took the huge pantheon of law student blogs, trimmed the list down to their Top 25, then sent everyone a ballot to vote for their favorites.

Well the votes are in, the results were announced on Tuesday, and…
…we’re #4!
That’s pretty doggone good as far as I’m concerned, considering the top 3 winners happened to be the exact same folks as the “Big 3″ I mentioned in that earlier entry
We also snagged #1 in the “Best Representation of Academics” category!
All in all, not bad for a contest where my initial nomination was a surprise
Many thanks again to the folks over at ClearAdmit, as well as to everyone in the Top 25 who included me on their ballot
And an even bigger *THANK YOU* to all of you readers who keep reading and supporting law:/dev/null
Here are the final vote results. All of you should check out all of these blogs

Friday Drive-by
Amid all the craziness trying to get caught up — with exams starting next week too!
— I totally overlooked an email from the folks over at ClearAdmit back on Monday. Turns out law:/dev/null is one of their Top 25 nominees for the “Best of Blogging 2009-2010″ Award!

The nomination was a total surprise, particularly given the far more talent writing of many other nominees (not to mention my frequent and arbitrary disappearances
).
But now I’ve got a better understanding of where Oscar nominees are coming from when they say it’s an honor just to be nominated. To have this blog included in the same list as my own “Big 3″ (Jansen, TRPLS, and idwsj) is a big honor in my book
So to the folks over at ClearAdmit, many many thanks! And also *THANK YOU* to all of you readers who keep coming back… and thus encourage me to keep writing
I’d encourage all of you to check out the other blogs in the Top 25 — I even found some new entries to the blogroll in this list
Have fun reading y’all
And a great night!

Friday Drive-by
Between the Thanksgiving holiday and final exam prep, I was a little worried there wouldn’t be much to peruse this week. I was wrong
- In law school you have to love the little things. Like blogging
(Fresh Thought Soup)
- Maybe it’s just my naïveté, but I always figured it was too @#$%ing cold for this sort of thing to happen in Minnesota (No. 634)
- To the pre-Ls: you too will find yourself employing this game plan on finals (Write and Wrong)
- Always protect your BlackBerry (quasi-blaWg)
- idwsj on why there’s -0- point in trying to go through law school alone (i don’t wear skinny jeans)
- Sounds like I’ll have some fun stuff to look forward to next year (Reasonably Prudent Law Student)
- This is why I sit in the back on the perimeter (Law Ingenue)
- Here’s a Black Friday deal you won’t want to miss…
((In)Sanity Soufflé)
- Speaking of Black Friday, more than a few classmates did this today… at a different type of ABC Store (Courtoons)
I’m off to engage in some thoroughly unproductive gambling at our bi-weekly poker nights. Have a great post-Thanksgiving weekend folks!

Friday Drive-by
I feel like I’m slacking off with the Friday Drive-by, but there isn’t one this week. I’m currently on the way to Boone for the November business meeting of the UNC Association of Student Governments, and after tonight’s business meeting the Student Body President of Appalachian State University is hosting a bonfire and related festivities so I’m not going to have time to cobble an entry together.
Hopefully none of you are heartbroken
Have a great night folks!

You can tell it’s getting near finals when a good chunk of the folks you regularly rely on for impeccably-written divergences from LRA have been MIA
There’s still plenty of good stuff out in the blawgosphere this week though — here’s a few links for your enjoyment:
Enjoy the weekend everybody

I try to have something witty to preface these entries, but I’m still a stuffy-nosed mess and the brain is only operating at about half-capacity
Lots of good entries among the blawgers this past week though, so here’s a few of the ones I liked:

Friday Drive-by

One of tonight's poker hands: the table wins with a straight flush
No Drive-by this week — I just got back earlier this afternoon from
my trip out west (stopping in at
Winston-Salem State University‘s Homecoming on my way back from WCU).
Then I headed over to the N.C. Central School of Law to grab my books for the weekend, then came home to host some friends and fellow 1Ls at my bi-weekly poker night.
And I’m currently not losing money, so I’m staying focused to make sure that trend continues
Have a great night folks!

Friday Drive-by
North Carolina’s schizophrenic weather decided to bless us with high-70s temperatures after a frigid week in the low-50s, so I’m currently enjoying the evening air out on the the deck finally throwing together this week’s Friday Drive-by. Here are a handful of sites I used to kill time this past week
Enjoy the weekend everybody

Midterms are done… now for the race to the semester’s finish line a mere 7 weeks away
Here are a handful of links that provided much-needed relief from studying this past week

Friday Drive-by
Maybe it’s because I like my alma mater, maybe it’s because I was born and raised in the South, or maybe it’s just because I’m a guy — while most of my classmates love Fridays because it means the academic week is over, I love Fridays because it means college football tomorrow
So with another week behind us and my brain switched into football mode, here’s a handful of links to stuff I used to kill time in LRA
- Sherpa on Scalia — I’m amused so many people who dislike the Justice’s opinions agree with him on this issue, and I generally like the guy’s opinions but think he’s completely, totally, and irrefutably wrong here (Fight the Hypo)
- Jansen offering up some excellent tips on making it through 1L year (No634)
- John dovetails with some of his own, especially #1 (Fearfully Optimistic)
- And Mariel reminding everyone to keep their head up (HATE is easy…love takes COURAGE)
- One of Huma’s Business Casual Superstar selections — linked not because I could ever actually pull off this outfit, but because of the XKCD comic at the bottom
(The Reasonably Prudent Law Student)
- Some of Soleil’s thoughts on men (The Divine Details)
- The Bitter Lawyer likes lists — this is one you probably shouldn’t read near classmates (The Bitter Lawyer)
- Finally, from the selection of non-law time diversions, for some reason I’m just now hearing Eminem’s response track re Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Hilarious. (YouTube)
Have a great weekend folks!
